For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Yes, it is the LORD our God who works in us to will and to do good things for His good pleasure. Hence, we cannot do these three things.
1. We cannot say that God did not work in us to will and to do good things, hence I am not doing any good things. God does work in us. So, if we do not see any will to do good things or we are unable to do any good things, it means that our surrender to Him is not absolute.
2. We cannot ever be dejected. It is God who works in us and He does it for His good pleasure. So, when we do good things to others, it pleases God. It does not matter if others appreciate your good works, or whether they have any change in their way of living; no, it should not affect you, because this is for the good pleasure of God and that’s all that matters.
3. We cannot boast. It is the grace of God that works in us to will and to do good things. So, where is the boasting coming from? If we realize that even the smallest good deed we do is because of the grace of God alone, we will never boast about our works.
